Pixar Research

- Pixar is an animation company that makes CGI animated films using the Renderman Software

- In 1979 Ed Catmull was hired by George Lucas to develop computer technology for films. He invented techniques such as the alpha channel and particle effects

- In 1984 Pixar premiered an incomplete version of the short film 'The Adventures of Andre and Wally B', the first film produced by the studio that included new techniques like detailed flexible character models, hand painted textures and motion blur

- In 1991 Pixar made an agreement with Disney to create a CGI animated film

- In 1995 Toy Story was released, the worlds first feature length animated film and highest grossing film of the year

- In 1997 Pixar made another agreement with Disney to produce 5 more animated films: A Bug's Life, Toy Story 2, Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo and The Incredibles. Each film was very successful

- Motivated, passionate people who produce their own work are often hired by Pixar

- A story artist storyboards scenes from  the script, given to them by the director along with a brief. They will also be expected to implement their own ideas.

- Applying for jobs in the industry is easier if you have made your own work

- Making a film starts with the writer and director who create the first draft of the script.
