After Effects Tracking

In this task we tracked a scar onto footage of someone's face using After Effects. I found some footage from pexels.com as well as an image of a bite mark from Google. I created a new project in After Effects and imported the footage and image in.

In order to track the scar onto the face we used a plugin called Mocha that comes with After Effects. To access this I went to Animation > Track in Boris FX Mocha. This was a lot simpler than Nuke, all I had to do was draw some points and the tracking worked automatically.

I then created a null object from layer > new > null object. This acts as a framework for the image for it to connect to the Mocha track. I connected the wound image to the null object using the parent and link tab in the composition screen.

Using the pen tool I then cut out the background of the image.

Now I only needed to make adjustments to make the scar fit more into the image. In the mask settings I used Mask Feather to add a blur to the edges.

I used some colour correction to blend the scar more into the face. I used a tint and added a blur to the background in order to get a correct black and white colour sample from the image. I then adjusted the tint until it created a colour that fit with the lighting and skin tone in the image.
